Anne graduated from Cardiff University with a joint honours degree in chemistry and biochemistry, and has previously worked in the NHS, in education and in the private sector as a biochemist. She has also worked as a part-time field ecologist for DCE Ltd over many years before finally becoming full-time in 2009, having been a Director since 2003.
Anne is a highly experienced botanical and protected species surveyor, particularly with regard to bats, birds, badgers and invertebrates. She has a special interest in sedges, a large living collection of which is currently taking over the back garden. In addition to working for DCE Ltd, Anne also spent time as a volunteer with the National Trust biological survey in the 1980s, assisting with fauna surveys all over England and Wales.
Anne was an active member of the Gloucestershire Invertebrate Group until the 1990s, when she moved back to Cardiff. She has assisted in numerous entomological survey projects for the company in recent years and still maintains an interest in hoverflies. She is a member of the Dipterists Forum and still enjoys catching flies whenever she has the time.
Anne holds personal licences to survey and handle bats, barn owl and great crested newt. She is a member of local natural history groups such as Cardiff Bat Group and the Glamorgan Bird Club, as well as the Botanical Society of the British Isles and the British Trust for Ornithology. She has been a Chartered Biologist since 2012.
