David Clements Ecology Ltd is a well established and highly respected ecological consultancy based in Penarth, near Cardiff. The company was established in 1996 by David Clements, who had previously worked as an entomologist for the National Museum of Wales, a zoologist with the National Trust Biological Survey Team and as a Senior Ecologist/EA Manager with two large environmental consultancies.
The company offers a wide range of ecological services both to private companies and individuals, as well as to the public sector, statutory bodies and local authorities etc. Our consultants carry out surveys and prepare mitigation strategies for a wide range of European protected species including otter, bats, great crested newt and dormouse, and for many other protected species including barn owl, marsh fritillary butterfly, white-clawed crayfish, common reptiles, badger and water vole. All protected species work is carried out by appropriately experienced and licensed personnel, and is based on the latest scientific evidence and research. We have a strong record in dealing with the legal, policy and licensing aspects of such work.
In addition we undertake a wide range of habitat surveys, ecological assessments and impact assessments, often with respect to planning and development for projects which may range from individual owner/occupier projects to major infrastructure developments. We have huge experience in designing and implementing mitigation, compensation and enhancement strategies, and in dealing with local planning authorities and the statutory agencies. We can also provide advice on habitat restoration and creation schemes, contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments, formulate management plans and carry out BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments. We have a strong commercial background, and always seek to offer a cost-effective and problem-solving approach.
