Details

A proposed renewable energy plant development in Port Talbot required the removal of a former sand quarry habitat used by over 100 breeding sand martin pairs.  DCE Ltd was commissioned at short notice to design and supervise the construction of an artificial nesting bank as compensation for the loss of habitat, for completion early in 2009.  The new nesting bank is one of the largest such constructions in the UK, and thought to be the only one constructed using reinforced concrete technology.  Sand martins occupied the new habitat within three months of its completion.
