  • LANDMAP-studies

DCE Ltd has contributed to several LANDMAP and ‘Landscapes Working for Wales’ studies in South Wales, including those for Neath Port Talbot, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport and Vale of Glamorgan county boroughs, the latter winning a Council of Europe Landscape Award in 2000 and a Landscape Institute Award in 1999.  DCE Ltd’s involvement included ecological analysis and nature conservation input to borough-wide landscape assessment and enhancement studies using the CCW’s LANDMAP process, including management recommendations for key nature conservation sites and landscape areas of key significance, and input to landscape design and management guidelines etc. As a result of these studies, DCE Ltd was subsequently commissioned to identify, characterise and evaluate Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs) in Merthyr Tydfil and Newport county boroughs and to develop criteria for the identification of SINCs in the Vale of Glamorgan, drawing up provisional lists of candidate sites, grounds for inclusion and mechanisms for protection and management etc.
